Sheaf Swimming

We are Sheaf District’s own swimming and lifesaving club and are open to all members of the Scout Association in the District.  Based at Graves Health & Sports Centre off Bochum Parkway, we meet most Sunday evenings between 6.45pm and 8.15pm.  We run a wide range of courses, from ‘learn to swim’ to advanced lifesaving qualifications, with most leading to recognised awards with certificates.

What costs are involved?

There are no subs or membership fees, we charge on a per course basis, each typically running for 8 weeks.

A 25% discount is available to 2nd / 3rd etc siblings attending the pool at the same time.

In 2018 we celebrated our 50th anniversary and in that time have taught literally hundreds of young people to swim, survive, safeguard and rescue others in difficulty.

So what’s happening, when?

All group leaders receive regular notification of forthcoming courses – so this is the best first port of call for any information

Alternatively, to join our mailing list, register at barrie.hocking@virgin.net to get notice of forthcoming courses and application forms.

For more information, contact Barrie Hocking on 0114 274 5557 or the above email.

Royal Life Saving Society

We are registered with the Royal Life Saving Society (RLSS) and run by volunteers from the local Scout community, all holding recognised RLSS teaching qualifications and many years’ experience.

New instructors are trained under the watchful eye of our experienced instructors.

We aim to  …
  • Encourage and support young member’s personal development within the Scout Association’s Training Programme.
  • Promote swimming skills, water safety, Lifesaving and Lifeguarding for the young members, adults and for the public.
